3 DIE, 5 ILL AFTER CONSUMING SPURIOUS LIQUOR IN KAIMUR

BHABUA: Three persons died and five fell ill after consuming spurious liquor at Kurasan village under Bhabua police station of Kaimur district in Bihar on Friday.

All eight were labourers and had consumed the liquor late Thursday night.

Lal Mohar Bind (32) and Ram Keshi Kohar (50) died at the village on Friday evening. Chandrika Paswan (32) died at the Sadar hospital where he was taken with complaints of breathless­ness.

Dharmendra Kahar (25), who was also admitted to Sadar hospital in a critical condition, has been referred to a higher institutio­n, said Naga Paswan, husband of the village head.

Jhanna Sah (50), Santosh Gond (35), Jitendra Musahar and Ram Krit Muasahar, who had consumed less quantity of the liquor, were out of danger after treatment, former village head Bhanu Pratap Singh said.

The families did not inform doctors and police about ailment and deaths in fear of action due to liquor consumptio­n. They were preparing for cremating the bodies when police reached and brought those bodies at Sadar hospital for autopsy Friday evening.

Deputy inspector general (DIG) P Kannan, district magistrate Navdeep Shukla and SP Rakesh Kumar visited the village and assured residents of stringent action against the liquor mafia.

Meanwhile, liquor supplier Munna Musahar was arrested and being interrogat­ed. He was jailed for smuggling and selling liquor in 2018 and on November 2 last year. But he again started the business after coming out on bail.
