JAMSHEDPUR: A record ₹559 crore worth of assets were distributed among 1.85 lakh beneficiaries under 64 central and state government schemes during a legal service and empowerment camp at Rabinadra Bhawan in Jamshedpur late Saturday evening, officials said. The camp was organised by East Singhbhum district legal service authority (DLSA) under the aegis of Jharkhand legal Service Authority (JHLSA).

“The objective of this camp is not just to help through assets distribution and loan disbursement but also to empower people in its true meaning. Earlier, people thought judiciary is all about going to courts and fighting cases. But, now the definition of justice has been broadened with such camps. People should know their rights, and being able to avail them is the new definition of justice. The system of judiciary ensures people get their rightful claims,” Manoj Prasad, Jamshedpur principal district and sessions judge, said, presiding over the camp Saturday.

Executive and judiciary systems exist simultaneously at one place so that people would not have to go places for getting the benefits of different government welfare and developmental schemes, Prasad said.

He also performed baby shower of expecting mothers and baby feeding (annaprashan) while handing over ration cards along with 10kg foodgrains to 10 transgender citizens.

“Every citizen has equal rights in India but people from some sections are not able to get their full benefit. We have been holding such camps to ensure that people from such deprived sections are able to benefit from government schemes,” Suraj Kumar, Easy Singhbhum deputy commissioner (DC), said.

“It’s absolutely imperative that people know their rights guaranteed by the Constitution. People in remote areas are out of the purview of protection under the laws because of lack of knowledge and rights. We will be empowered truly when we know our rights under the Constitution and how to get justice by fighting injustice lawfully,” Dr M Tamil Vanan, Jamshedpur senior superintendent of police (SSP), said.
