THE TEAM, ALONG WITH LOCAL POLICE, WENT TO DUBEY’S NATIVE VILLAGE AND RECORDED HIS FAMILY MEMBERS’ STATEMENTS
A three-member police team from Maharashtra on Tuesday reached Jharkhand’s Palamu to investigate the recent death of Surja Kumar Dubey, an Indian navy sailor.
The team accompanied by local police personnel went to Dubey’s native village Kolhua under Chainpur police station and recorded statements of Dubey’s father Mithilesh Dubey and other family members.
The team stayed for nearly three hours in the village. Though its members refused to talk to media persons, sources in the district police said that the team sought details of persons who had come in Dubey’s contact during his month-long stay at his village and on his way back to duty.
Palamu superintendent of police (SP) Sajeev Kumar said, “A team from Maharashtra met family members of the dead navy sailor as part of the ongoing investigation.”
The Navy man was found with severe burn injuries in forests of Gholvad in Maharashtra’s Palghar
district and died while being taken to a hospital in Mumbai on February 5. In his dying declaration, Dubey reportedly claimed that some armed men had demanded ₹10 lakh in ransom from him.
Dubey had gone missing on January 30 after he left home following a month-long vacation.
As per available information, he had boarded a Hyderabadbound flight from Ranchi around 8am on January 30 to resume duty. After reaching Hyderabad, he boarded a different flight to Chennai, from where he was scheduled to take a train to Coimbatore.
Dubey landed in Chennai around 9pm the same day, after which he was traceless. His family members have placed their suspicions on one of Dubey’s colleagues named Dharmendra.
