PATNA: As per the latest report of the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Election Watch, among the 31 ministers in the Nitish Kumar Cabinet, 18 have criminal cases against them while 14 have serious criminal cases.

The report analysed selfsworn affidavits of 28 ministers.

The details of two ministers, Ashok Choudhary and Janak Ram, were not analysed, as currently they are not members of any of the two Houses – Legislative Assembly or Legislative Council. Details of another BJP minister Ram Surat Kumar could not be analysed, as his complete details were not available on the website of the Election Commission of India (ECI).

BJP has the largest number of ministers, 11 of the 14 (over 79%), with criminal cases and eight (57%) with serious criminal cases.

JD-U has 4 of the 11 (36%) ministers with criminal cases and 3 (27%) with serious criminal cases. Three others – one each from the HAM-S, VIP and an independent – also have serious criminal cases, says the report. It is, however, not surprising, considering the large number of tainted leaders who got elected.

An earlier analysis by ADR and Election Watch had found that 163 (over 68%) out of the 241 newly elected leaders from all parties had declared criminal cases.

This was higher than the last time.

The department has sought list of interested students from Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Dhanbad and Bokaro.
