CM SOREN CLEARS DUMKA BENCH OF J’KHAND HC

Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren has approved the proposal of setting up a bench of state’s high court (HC) in Dumka.

The CM also gave a green signal to state water resources department’s proposal of erecting guard wall along River Ganga in Sahebgunj district to stop landslide during Monsoon season.

The need for a second HC bench in Dumka arose years back in view of difficulti­es faced by residents of Santhal Pargana region involved in litigation,as they travel nearly 400km to appear for hearings in the existing HC in Ranchi.

Earlier, the BJP government had mooted the plan, following which the proposal was sent to Union ministry of law after Cabinet approval as well. However, there has been no follow-up on the matter so far.

Soren, during the 2019 Assembly election campaign, had said that he would ensure formation of a Dumka bench of Jharkhand HC, if elected to power.

A meeting chaired by the chief secretary was held in this regard few days back.

Chief minister (CM) Hemant Soren has approved the proposal of setting up a bench of Jharkhand high court (HC) in Dumka.

Soren on Monday also gave a green signal to state water resources department’s proposal of erecting guard wall along River Ganga in Sahebgunj district to stop landslide during Monsoon season.

The need for a second HC bench in Dumka arose years back in view of difficulti­es faced by residents of Santhal Pargana region involved in litigation, as they have to travel for nearly 400km for hearings in the existing HC in Ranchi.

Earlier, the BJP government had mooted the plan, following which the proposal was sent to Union ministry of law after Cabinet approval as well. However, there has been no follow-up on the matter so far.

A meeting chaired by the chief secretary was held in this regard few days back, in which building constructi­on department was directed to look for an appropriat­e site.

Regarding the 300m guard wall proposed along Ganga, water resources minister Mithilesh Kumar said it was much needed.

“The government wants to complete the project at the earliest after the CM’s nod to the ₹8.14 crore scheme to stop landslides by arresting soil erosion along river banks during heavy rainfall in Monsoon season.

As per the project, the protection wall will come up at Shobhapur village on the right bank at Kamlen Bagicha, close to National Highway-80.

The scheme was drawn following approval of state technical advisory committee of water resources department in December last year.

Meanwhile, the JMM lauded the CM’s approval to the proposal of setting up HC bench in Dumka .

With this, the JMM’s poll commitment has been delivered, party general secretary Supriyo Bhattachar­ya said .

He also underlined that the JMM also fulfilled the commitment of farm loan waiver, along with reduced examinatio­n fee of Jharkhand Public Services Commission.
