A member of a special action team (SAT) was killed when Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) went off inside Dudru forest under Serendag police station in Lohardaga district on Tuesday.

Incidentally, the area where the incident took place happened was strewn with booby traps, allegedly planted by a squad led by zonal commander Ravindra Ganjhu of CPI (Maoists), a banned extremist outfit.

The incident took place when a joint team of SAT and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were carrying out an operation in the area following intelligence input about movement

of Maoists.

The deceased was identified as Duleshwar Prasad (31). He hailed from Gumla district.

Jharkhand chief minister (CM) Hemant Soren also paid homage to the slain jawan at Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP) ground in Ranchi. Expressing grief, Soren said, “It’s unfortunate to lose brave soldiers of

Jharkhand. I offer my condolences.”

The CM also sought details from senior police officials, including director general of police Niraj Sinha about the incident.

As per available information, Prasad’s left leg was blown away in the blast, while his other leg also sustained injuries.

He was airlifted to Ranchi, but succumbed to his injuries during treatment at Medica hospital.

This is the second such incident in the region in a month’s time. Last month, one woman was killed and another severely injured in bordering areas of Lohardaga-Latehar-Gumla districts, in an IED blast.
