14 trafficked from Jharkhand, including 11 minors, rescued in Delhi, brought back
RANCHI: Fourteen Jharkhand residents, including 11 minors, who were trafficked and currently working as domestic help in Delhi were rescued and brought to Jharkhand on Wednesday by Bal Kalyan Sangh (BKS) in association with Jharkhand Mahila Vikas Samiti, a wing of state women, child development department, an official said.
The rescued persons were handed over to the child welfare committee (CWC), Ranchi, where their statements were also recorded. Ranchi CWC chairperson Rupa Verma said, “They were sent to shelter home. Now, we will write to the CWC of respective districts and urge them to take back the children.” The children admitted
that they faced violence and torture from their employers and many of them fled from the employers’ houses. On basis of their statement, FIRs have also been lodged on number of employers in Delhi, she said.
Of the fourteen, 12 are girls including nine minors and three boys including two minors.
They belong to eight Jharkhand districts including five from West Singhbhum, two each from Sahibganj and Godda and one each from East Singhbhum, Pakud, Khunti, Gumla and Simdega.
BKS secretary Sanjay Kumar Mishra said the children were taken to Delhi by traffickers a year back. They were working as domestic help there. “They were rescued by integrated rehabilitation resource centre in association with Delhi police and cases have also been filed against employers.”
Programme coordinator of state resource centre -- an autonomous body set up under department of women, child development and social security -- Pramod Kumar Verma said, “After their rescue by Delhi police, they were sent to children’s home in Delhi. We received the information in this regard. Then, we contacted the family members of these children and they were safely brought to Jharkhand on Wednesday.”
State resource centre is engaged in rescue, repatriation and rehabilitation of trafficked survivors.
