RANCHI: CPI(M) politburo member Brinda Karat on Thursday urged chief minister Hemant Soren to take a policy decision on the three central farm laws that generated nationwide protests.

She said the Jharkhand government should make good use of the budget session of the state assembly discussing the laws and take a stand.

Hemant gave a patient hearing to the CPI(M) leader and said his government was consulting the legal experts and policy makers.

The chief minister was vocal against the farm laws in public. He also said his government would not implement the central law in Jharkhand. However, the government was yet to take clear stand on the matter.

Brinda also drew Hemant’s attention towards food security programme, delay in providing compensation to the families of mob lynching victims and Ranchi master plan 2037.

The CPI(M) leader pointed out that several villages of the five blocks of Ranchi district, Namkum, Khijri, Ormanjhj, Kanke and Ratu, would be impacted. “There would be large scale displacement that will have adverse impact,” she said.

Later talking to media persons, Brinda said it was difficult for common people to understand Prime minister Narendra Modi’s language.

She said the Centre was keen on privatising coal and steel based companies and mentioned that the disinvest proposal of profit making Vizag steel plant in Vishakhapatnam is an example. The steel plant that has about 33000 employees has earned ₹97 crore profit in the year 2019, she said adding that the government wants to hand over its 22000 acre land to some corporate magnates close to the corridors of power.

The CPI(M) leader also lamented centre’s response towards the farmer’s agitation that entered the 84th day on Thursday and criticised the BJP leadership for branding the protestors as Khalistanis.
