DHANBAD: Fissures between members of the Giridih district Congress Committee came to the fore on Friday when party workers created ruckus in front of state president Rameswar Oraon, working president Dr Irfan Ansar and minority committee chairman Sakil Ansari during the foundation laying ceremony of the new party office on Friday.

As state finance minister and party’s state president Rameswar Oraon reached the venue, party workers went on rampage demanding chair for some leaders on the stage.

Following the district president Naresh Verma’s denial of the same, the angry workers broke chairs, sat on a dharna and began shouting slogans against leaders, including Dr Irfan Ansari.A protester pleading anonymity said, “District president Verma neither gives proper information of party function nor does he honour the workers.”After one hour of protests, the foundation laying ceremony started.

Expressing unhappiness over the incident, state president Rameswar Oraon said the workers should raise their voice at a platform given by the party not in public.

“Indiscipline can’t be tolerated at any level in the party be it for any cause. Workers should have raised the issue at the circuit house rather during a function which tarnished the image of party,” said Ansari.

Ruling out groupism, Giridih Cong president Naresh Verma said,“Such leaders never attend Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi Jayanti. Since, party is in power they come in those function where they can draw attention of minister and senior leaders.”
