Jamshedpur vaccine stock to run out in 2-3 days: Officials
JAMSHEDPUR: Notwithstanding the questions arising over the upcoming vaccination drive of people aged 18-44 years in the state, uncertainty also loomed large over the ongoing inoculation drive in Jamshedpur with drying stock of vaccines on Thursday.
The district was left with about 4,000 doses of Covishield and 8,000 doses of Covaxin by Thursday evening, officials said, adding that the stock was likely to run out in two or three days.“We have requisitioned 1.26 lakh doses of vaccine for the ongoing vaccination drive and got 18,800 doses Tuesday. We are vaccinating 10,000 persons daily on an average. As many as 14,000 doses were administered on Wednesday alone, leaving us with 4,000 Covishield doses. About 3,000 Covaxin doses were used Thursday, leaving about 8,000 doses. This will run for another 2-3 days. We immediately need 3 lakh doses for the month of May,” Dr BN Usha, district reproductive child health officer (DRCHO), said.
The vaccination drive was restarted yesterday after three days following receipt of 18,800 doses of Covishield late Tuesday night. Only centers having Covaxin were running during these three days.
Dr Usha said they will require at least 6 lakh vaccine doses if they were to run the third round vaccination for people aged 18-44 years simultaneously with the ongoing drive for people
aged 45 years and above. “About 40% more people will add once we start vaccination of this younger age group from May 1. We are waiting for state government’s policy decision vis a vis Central Government’s vaccination guideline for this new group before finalizing district’s requisition demand,” she said.
