Another Niranjani Akhada seer dies due to Covid

HARIDWAR: Another Niranjani Akhada seer who visited Mahakumbh died due to Covid on Wednesday.

Shri Mahant Lakhan, head of Shravan Nath Muth of Shri Panchayati Akhada Niranjani and chief of Shravan Nath Muth Jawahar Lal Nehru College Managing Committee died at AIIMS Rishikesh. This is the fourth death of a seer due to Covid during Mahakumbh, which started on April 1 and will conclude on April 30.

According to Shir Panchayati Akhada Niranjani secretary Shri Mahant Ravindra Puri Shri, Mahant Lakhan Giri was a noted seer who was committed to religious and social causes.

He added that Giri was ill for the past three weeks and was first admitted to Jagjeetpur-based private hospital. Later when he tested positive for Covid, he was shifted to AIIMS 10 days back.

So far, four seers have died in Mahakumbh due to Covid-19. On April 27, Rakesh Puri from Niranjani Akhada, who had arrived from Ahmedabad for Mahakumbh died due to Covid. On April 17, Mahamandle­shwar Jagatguru Swami Shyamdev Devacharya Maharaj, who held the seat of mahant at Jabalpur’s Narsinmgh Temple Gita Dham, died in Jabalpur, after returning from Mahakumbh. On April 13, Mahamandal­eshwar of Shri Panch Nirmani Ani Akhada Kapil Dev Das from Madhya Pradesh Chitrakoot area died in Dehradun after attending Mahakumbh.

There has been a surge in cases and deaths in the state in the past two weeks. Uttarakhan­d on Wednesday reported the highest number of daily cases- 6054.

Meanwhile, a differentl­y abled person died at Kumbh Bairagi camp by electrocut­ion at the temporary tent of Narayan Swami Hospital on Wednesday. The deceased Baldev, 50, resident of Bakala, Amritsar had come in touch with a live electric wire. He was taken to the district hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Meanwhile, UC Jain Trust has started giving free food to Covid patients recuperati­ng in home isolation. More than 70 patients are being delivered free breakfast, lunch and dinner dailyt.

Social activist UC Jain said that apart from food delivery, if patients require medicine or any other daily items, then their food delivery person provides those too.
