‘Task force to keep an eye on immersion of bodies in Yamuna’

AGRA : Mayor Naveen Jain has urged people not to immerse bodies of dead people in Yamuna and asked corporator­s to form a task force of 11 local persons to keep a watch on such incidents in their wards mostly located on the bank of the river.

Jain was presiding over a meeting of a committee constitute­d on direction from the state government and headed by him, on Monday at Agra Nagar Nigam premises.

He said no such body has been traced so far in the Yamuna at Agra.

The convener member and municipal commission­er, Agra Nagar Nigam, Tikaram Funde was present during the meeting. Officials of nagar nigam and 11 corporator­s, having wards on bank of river Yamuna, were also invited.

Municipal commission­er, Tikaram Funde, highlight the purpose of the committee.

“Its aim is to stop people immersing bodies in the Yamuna and to resolve their problems while cremating the bodies of both Covid and nonCovid patients,” stated Funde.

“Each of the corporator named as member of committee will form task force in his area, comprising 11 members, who would keep an eye on those making such attempt of immerse bodies in the river,” said Jain while highlighti­ng that not only it is non-ethical to flow, but it also causes water pollution in the river which needs to be stopped.

Mayor Jain assured that Nagar Nigam would ensure cremation if so required and all assistance would be provided to those facing problem while cremation during the pandemic time.
