‘News affects me so much that I feel like I need some time off’

The actor says we must take good care of ourselves and follow safety measures, as with Covid-19, we never know when things take a turn

Neha Dhupia is currently in Delhi, spending some quality time with her family. At a time when the country is reeling under a pandemic, the actor says that being in the company of her loved ones gives her strength and hope to live. “We’re here in Delhi at my husband’s place. I would like to believe that we’re locked up in a love nest and so, we aren’t complaining. We’re fortunate enough to be surrounded by an open space,” she shares.

But, the actor says that it is a challenge when one has a child at home. “We’ve decided to stay indoors and take all precautions. But what is scary is that despite taking all precautions, people are getting Covid. I’ve been reading the news about children contracting the coronavirus now,” she states.

Dhupia feels that motherhood has made her very cautious as she is deeply focussed on her daughter’s safety. She says, “Being a mum has made me very scared. The one thing that parenthood does to you is to make you live in caution. Earlier when we were living in a normal world, I would correct Mehr if she would do some mischief. But now I don’t tell her anything. I’m happy as long as she is indoors and she is healthy and happy.”

Last year during the lockdown, Dhupia produced and acted in a short film from home, but confides that even though she has a lot of creative ideas brewing this lockdown, she wants to take it slow. “Every time I pick up my phone or laptop and I see the news, it affects me so much that I feel like I need some time off. I thought that we would get past what happened in 2020 but the same thing is happening again now,” Dhupia signs off.
