RANCHI: The number of daily Covid-19 cases in the state got into three digits on Wednesday, 52 days after Jharkhand started logging at least 1000 cases every day since April 5 in the second wave of the pandemic.

As per the latest Covid bulletin, the state recorded 977 positive cases on May 26.

The second wave hit the state around the last week of March, with positive cases rising gradually. On April 4, the state had logged 788 positive cases.

Since April 5, the state had been registering at least 1000 cases per day, which went on multiplying at a breakneck speed. On April 28, the state registered 8,075 positive cases, which has been the highest single-day spike in the state till now.

The cases started plateauing and decreasing gradually thereafter.

“On May 26, with 977 cases the positivity rate in the state was 2.3%. The cases have started declining in most districts. Only two districts Ranchi and East Singhbhum recorded more than 100 cases,” said Sidhartha Tripathi, Officer on Special Duty for IEC (Health).

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, 19 deaths were recorded in the state, of which 12 were recorded in Ranchi and Jamshedpur. These are the two centres that get the maximum of referral cases. Sixteen of the 14 districts in the state did not record any Covid death.

‘Yaas hits rural survey, vaccination’

The officials said the incessant rain due to Cyclone Yaas has hit the ongoing special rural health survey and vaccination in at least eight districts in the state.

There are eight services majorly or partially including the survey as well as vaccination, Tripathi said.

These districts include East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Saraikela, Khunti, Deoghar, Lohardaga and Latehar.

The state government on Tuesday started a special 10-day survey in rural areas to identify covid Cases and provide them adequate treatment, besides identifying cases of tuberculosis, diabetes and blood pressure.

“Of the 29,194 RAT tests conducted on suspected cases, 748 were found to be Covid positive in past two days,” Tripathi said.
