Intensive vaccination campaign to begin from today across state
RANCHI: The state health department has decided to conduct an intensive vaccination campaign from Friday to Sunday every week in June, with a target of inoculating 1.5.lakh persons every day.
“All districts have been given their respective targets, and they can fix targets for blocks and panchayat level to make the initiative a success. Mega Centres would be set up wherever required to meet the expected rush by the district administration,” said Siddharth Tripathi, nodal officer of the health department’s IEC wing.
Vaccination will be done for both 45 plus and 18-45 category. However, the 45 plus category will be the priority due to the availability of vaccines, officials said. As of Thursday, 1,037,950 vaccines were in stock for the 45 plus category, while only 55,350 vaccines were available for the 18-45 age group.
To make the weekend initiative a success, the authorities have planned mobilization among identified class groups, who would be encouraged to visit the vaccination centre to take the jabs.
“As per plans for this weekend, MLAs, administrative and judicial officials and their family members would be targeted along with common people. Similarly, on Saturday, the focus would be religious leaders, tribal leaders like Mankis and Mundas. And on Sunday, the focus would be on media persons, other social groups, besides common persons,” said Tripathi.
The state currently is inoculating around 35,000 persons every day and the special campaign aims at increasing it to 1.5 lakh at least on the weekends.
