First double T girder for Agra Metro, which was cast a few days back, has been demoulded successfully at the casting yard located in Bamrauli Katara.

This girder, that is shaped like alphabet T (hence the name double T girder), will be used in construction of concourse slab above the road for elevated stations of Agra Metro’s priority stretch from Taj East Gate to Jama Masjid, officials said.

The double T girder to be used in Agra Metro Project is 3.7 m wide, 11 m long and weighs around 33 tons.

The use of double T girders in concourse area of stations is a technological achievement, which minimises the cost manifold and saves time with good finish as compared to the usual shuttering method which is time taking and costly, officials said.

The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) have used same double T girders in Kanpur for quick concourse construction and is the first to do this civil construction innovation, according to a press statement released by the public relations office of UPMRC.

MD UP Metro Rail Corporation Kumar Keshav congratulated the team of UPMRC working at Agra Metro Project for their efforts.

He said, “First double-T girder for concourse slab above the road for elevated stations of Agra Metro Project has been casted and demoulded at casting yard. With precast double-T girders, construction work above the road for elevated stations at Taj East Gate, Basai and Fatehabad in priority section will be much faster with right quality.”

“With the consistent efforts of our team, we are committed to providing a world class metro to people of Agra as per the schedule,” he said.

The civil construction work is going on for the elevated section of the priority stretch of the first corridor, which runs from Taj East Gate to Sikandara. The 3 km elevated station stretch comprises of Taj East Gate station, Basai station and Fatehabad Road Station, according to the press statement issued by UPMRC.
