Shaan is glad that the vaccination drive in the country is on at a good pace. The singer has received his first shot and wants everyone to get vaccinated soon. “The second wave was scary and frustrating. To come out of it was tough. But the authorities did well. The vaccination drive in the country too is on well. While we are cribbing about things regarding the vaccine, I think we are lucky as we have companies making vaccines. Many countries are facing a hard time procuring them,” he says.

While he has been at home with his family doing virtual gigs, the singer has also sung and shot for a song for Father’s Day, called Main Toh Tera Hissa Hoon, on the bond between an ageing father and his young son. “It is also a way to remind 40-= and 50-yearolds that our parents are getting older, we need to be there for them. ing and makes his own music videos too, shares the proud dad. But the 48-year-old admits you can’t pass on a legacy to anyone. Talking about his sons following in his footsteps, he shares, “There are so many great artistes and singers whose kids may not have been as good as them. Comparison is not an advantage. Each one has to carve their own path and make their own identity. Both my kids are focussed. They are proud that they want to do it their way and are willing to work hard for it. I have do’s and don’ts on singing but I don’t push those on my kids.”

Shaan feels today playback singing is more about chance. Is a career in playback singing something that he would want his kids to pursue? “Singing and maybe becoming a pop singer should be their focus. Or a performing artiste. Now, Bollywood is open to so many genres and every kind of talent and voice is welcome. I started out as a pop artiste and then playback happened. Moreover, these days, lip-sync isn’t used much and more songs are background numbers. But I see Indie pop returning, with so many singles and music videos being released,” he adds.
