FOR A HEALTHIER FUTURE

A Ugandan mother, Annet, walked till a health care centre to get her baby vaccinated against measles. She said, “I didn’t mind the distance. I wanted my baby immunised.” She even volunteered to support her neighbour, who has twins, by helping her carry one baby. Kudos to these mothers!

BACK IN ACTION!

The Hubble Space Telescope, which has contributed to some of the most significant discoveries of our cosmos, has resumed normal operations after the payload computer experienced a problem on June 13. We are excited for more groundbreaking discoveries from NASA’s orbiting observatory.

RESCUE HEROES

Courage and kindness make a good police officer. Rocco Mellott’s squad in the US has both! He rescued a child from a hot car by breaking a window, when the mother locked the vehicle, with the keys inside. As the damage to the car would impose financial hardship on the mother, the rescue squad also donated money to replace the broken window.

A PROUD MOMENT FOR INDIA

American entrepreneur Jeff Bezos is set to join the astronaut club on the world’s first unpiloted suborbital flight, on New Shepard rocket. Among those responsible for this achievement is an Indian, 30-year-old systems engineer Sanjal Gavande, a resident of Maharashtra’s Kalyan. You go, girl!

SAVING FORESTS, SAVING EARTH

Forests provide a home to the biodiversity we find on Earth and are vital for our survival. For our water and air to be clean, we need healthy forests. Keeping this in mind, the European Union has endorsed a new Forest Strategy for 2030 that sets out plans to protect old forests and plant three billion new trees.

STORY TIME!

Our reader, Koshal Kamini Aprajita shared with us how her daughter, Aprajita Nanchahal, wrote a mystery novel during the pandemic. Nanchahal’s work features “few teenagers who try to solve the mystery behind a house“and will “keep you gripped till the end”. We would definitely love to read it and looking forward to more stories by this young author!
