Dhami orders full coordination among all departments and agencies working in disaster management
DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday directed authorities concerned to ensure quick reaction to any natural calamity as heavy rains continue to lash the state.
He was holding an emergency meeting on disaster management at the state secretariat. District magistrates of all 13 districts were present through video-conferencing at the meeting.
Earlier, Dhami cancelled his scheduled visit to Kedarnath and Badrinath shrines.
During the meeting, Dhami asked authorities concerned to “ensure quick response to any calamity in the incident”.
“While responding to such incidents, the efforts should be put to reduce the response time. People should feel that the government is with them in these difficult times to help them in every possible way,” Dhami said at the meeting.
He also directed authorities to ensure “full coordination among all departments and agencies working in the disaster management. There should be no communication gap”.
While taking note of the previous relief works in natural calamities, he directed for their “constant monitoring.”
“Ensure that the affected people get their compensation amount without any delay. They should be also provided with adequate food, drinking water, medicines and secured shelter. Also, the rehabilitation of the affected families should be done soon without any issues,” said Dhami.
The CM also emphasised upon “solving people’s issues without compelling them to move from pillar to post.”
“Any issue reported at tehsil level should be solved there only without any pendency. No pendency should be the motto of working of the government system so as to make sure that common man doesn’t face any problems,” he said.
Dhami also directed authorities concerned to recruit proper number of geologists and “speed up the process of installation of Doppler radars.”
The meeting was held in the backdrop of heavy damage to property caused by heavy rains in various parts of the state including, Uttarkashi, Tehri Garhwal, Haridwar, US Nagar and Nainital.
At least three people, including a mother-daughter duo, died on Monday after getting trapped under heavy muck brought by rainwater inside their house while they were asleep in Uttarkashi district.
