MEERUT : Superintendent of police (SP), Bijnor, Dharamveer Singh on Monday revoked the suspension of sub-inspector and chowki in-charge, Jhalu police post, Arun Kumar Rana who was suspended over an alleged brawl with a functionary of a right-wing organisation last Thursday, said police officials.

On Thursday, Umag Kakran, a right-wing functionary who visited Jhalu police post to seek character certificate for his father, got into an altercation with the chowki in-charge Arun Kumar Rana over some issue and the S-I allegedly slapped him, they said.

Later, activists of the rightwing organisation led by former MP Bhartendra Singh staged a protest against the incident and met circle officer Kuldeep Gupta. Thereafter, Bijnor SP suspended the S-I, a police official said.

Next day (Friday), a group of motorcycle-borne persons attacked the S-I Rana when he was on way to a market. Agitated over the attack, he lodged a complaint against the rightwing leader Umamg and his six aides on the same day, but no arrest was made. The S-I then sent his resignation to DGP Mukul Goel, ADG of Bareily zone and DIG Moradabad, and also accused the senior officials of mounting pressure on him for compromise instead of arresting the accused.

He also claimed that some leaders of the right-wing organisation approached and threatened him with adverse consequences if he continued to pursue his case against accused, he alleged in his resignation letter.

On Saturday, his resignation letter went viral on social media and on Monday, Bijnor SP revoked his suspension. Police arrested Umang and another accused Bholu while raids were on to arrest the other five named accused, police said.

Meanwhile, the SP denied the charges levelled by the S-I against the senior police officials. On being asked whether prime accused is associated with right-wing organisation, he said, “They are from public”. He said that suspension of the SI had been revoked and stern action would be taken against the culprits. However, a rightwing leader who refused to be named, claimed that the S-I’s allegations were baseless and no one pressurized him.
