MAMATA MEETS MODI, DEMANDS VACCINES, PROBE INTO PEGASUS

NEW DELHI: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday -- the first proper meeting between the two leaders after Banerjee became the state’s CM for a third consecutiv­e time earlier this year.

Calling it a “courtesy” meeting, Banerjee said that she raised the issue of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and also demanded more vaccines and medicines for West Bengal.She said she demanded a probe into the alleged snooping on key persons in India using the Pegasus software.“PM should call an allparty meeting on the Pegasus issue,” she said.

The CM is scheduled to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday.

NEW DELHI: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday - the first proper meeting between the two leaders after Banerjee became the state’s chief minister for a third consecutiv­e time earlier this year.

Calling it a “courtesy” meeting, Banerjee said that she raised the issue of the ongoing coronaviru­s disease (Covid-19) pandemic and also demanded more vaccines and medicines for West Bengal.

“During the meeting, I raised the issue of Covid and need for more vaccines & medicines in the state. I also raised the pending issue of the change of name of the state. On this issue, he said, “He will see,” she was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

Banerjee on Tuesday said the unity of opposition parties will take shape on its own.

Responding to a question on opposition unity against the ruling NDA, she said it will take shape on its own.Asked whether she will lead the opposition parties, Banerjee said the country will lead the opposition unity.

She said the prime minister should convene an all-party meet on the Pegasus snooping row and decide on a Supreme Court-led probe.

Following her meeting with the Prime Minister, Banerjee addressed the media where she said, “Prime Minister should call an all-party meeting on the Pegasus issue. There should be a Supreme Court-monitored probe in this matter. There should not be any discrimina­tion.”

The two had met briefly at the Kalaikunda Air Base in Bengal’s West Midnapore for a review meeting over Cyclone Yaas in the last week of May.

Banerjee would meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday which she described as “chai pe charcha”.
