DEHRADUN: Newly appointed Congress state unit president Ganesh Godiyal on Wednesday “promised” to abolish the controversial Char Dham Devasthanam Management Board Act if his party is voted to power in the 2022 state assembly election.

Godiyal made the statement while addressing his first press conference after taking charge as the party’s new state head on Tuesday.

“The Char Dham Devasthanam Management Board Act is a law that has been imposed in the state by this arrogant BJPled state government. The priest community for which the government claims the Act is only protesting against it. Hence, if voted to power in 2022, we will repeal it,” said Godiyal.

Attacking the BJP government, he accused it of taking decisions “against the welfare of the people.”

“Not only the above-mentioned Act, but there are several other decisions taken by this government which are completely against the public including the amendment in Uttar Pradesh Zamindari Abolition and Reforms Act under which people from other states are now allowed to buy land in the hills without any condition. The move will rob the rights of future generations of this state which we will never allow to happen.

“Hence, we are warning this government to rectify it, or else we will do it after coming to power,” said Godiyal.

The new state president while speaking on the new team formed months before the assembly elections said, “The new team is fully determined to take forward the ideology of party among the public before the elections.

“It would help in winning the elections as the public also want the Congress in power because of misdeeds of the BJP government.”

He also said his party will hold a core committee meeting on August 3 and 4 in which the office-bearers of various committees would be present.

“In today’s core committee meeting, we have provided the matter to the committees asking them to chalk out their strategy on the basis of that. They will then submit their report on August 3 on the same,” said Godiyal. “The Congress will get a thumping majority in 2022 polls.”

During the press conference, former state president and newly appointed leader of opposition Pritam Singh’s absence gave fuel to the reports of differences among leaders of the party after the formation of the new team.

However, party state in charge Devendra Yadav, who was also present in the event, refuted the reports of factionalism, saying, “There are no differences in the party. All leaders are united to work collectively to win the assembly elections.”

BJP state vice president Devendra Bhasin said: “The Congress seems to be daydreaming by claiming that it will come to power and turn all the decisions taken by our government. It has been already rejected by the people of the state long back. Their new team which is a group of losers from the 2017 elections will make no difference.”
