MP BOOKED FOR ‘MISBEHAVING’ WITH TEMPLE COMMITTEE
RUDRAPUR: A first information report (FIR) was lodged against a BJP MP from Uttar Pradesh and his two companions on Sunday over alleged misbehaviour with Jageshwar temple management committee in Uttarakhand’s Almora, police said.
A complaint was lodged against Dharmendra Kashyap, MP from Aonla (Bareilly), and his two companions by the manager of the temple.
“An FIR has been lodged with revenue police against the BJP MP from Aonla and his two companions. Revenue police are probing the allegations made by the manager of the temple management committee. Action will be taken accordingly,” said Monika (who goes by her first name), sub-divisional magistrate of Bhanoli in Almora.
Earlier, Uttarakhand ex-speaker and local MLA Govind Singh Kunjwal started a 24-hour fast with Congress workers against the alleged misbehaviour of Kashyap and sought an apology from the MP.
Jageshwar temple manager Bhagwan Bhatt said, “Kashyap came to the temple at 3.30 pm on Saturday and offered prayers. But he didn’t leave though 6 pm is the fixed time for temple closure. Our priests requested him to leave and I also requested him. Instead of leaving, he started abusing me and other priests.” Kunjwal said, “
State BJP vice-president Devendra Bhasin said, “Everybody should respect the decorum of the religious places. But the Congress is playing politics over the incident and adding fuel to fire.”
Kashyap couldn’t be contacted despite several attempts.
