As window closes, PU gets 20k UG applications
Patna University (PU) has received over 20,000 applications for admission of students to various undergraduate (UG) regular and self-financing courses. The last date for the online submission of applications ended on Tuesday.
According to PU, altogether 34,580 students registered for taking admission in UG courses. Of them, 20,855 students successfully filled the form and made payment.
Considering the pandemic situation, the varsity has decided to do away with the entrance exam this year.
Anil Kumar, dean of students’ welfare, said, “Merit list is likely to be published by September 3. As there is no entrance exam this year, a merit list will be prepared based on marks obtained by applicants in Class 12. Centralised counselling process would take place for the first time with the help of university management information system (UMIS).”
Kumar said UMIS would help students to modify their preferences in case of the unavailability of seats in their preferred courses and colleges.
The UMIS system would facilitate admission in its constituent colleges, including Magadh Mahila College, Patna Science College, Patna Law College, Vanijya Mahavidyalaya etc.
Meanwhile, “no entrance exam” has disappointed many students who have scored average in the board exam.
Avinash Raj, who has applied for Bachelors in Computer Applications, said, “I scored 68 % in Class 12. There are limited seats in vocational courses. State board students have fetched low percentage than CBSE students. In the absence of an entrance exam, students with a high percentage will get admission. Students below 75% will have to compromise with their course and college preference.”
The varsity is yet to announce details for admission to postgraduate (PG) courses.
“Final exams of third-year students are going on. After completion of their exams, PG admission dates will be announced,” shared an official of PU.
