BKU CHIEF CLAIMS HE IS RECEIVING AN OVERWHELMING RESPONSE OF PEOPLE FOR SUNDAY’S PROPOSED MAHAPANCHAYAT IN MUZAFFARNAGAR

MEERUT: Claiming that he was receiving an overwhelming support of people for the September 5 (Saturday) mahapanchayat of Samyukta Kisan Morcha in Muzaffarnagar, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) chief and head of Baliyan Khap Naresh Tikait accused the BJP-led Centre of doing nothing for farmers and labourers.

He further claimed that women from Haryana and Punjab would participate in the proposed mahapanchayat in big numbers and every possible effort should be made to give them respect and honour. Addressing the panchayat of Battisha Khap (caste panchayat) at Bhainswal village of Shamli district on Wednesday evening, Tikait said voting for BJP was a mistake.

“It is a difficult time but we are also responsible for it because we voted in support of a BJP government. They showed us dreams and we trusted them without questioning. We trusted their words and thought they will bring ‘Ramarajya’ their words differ from their deeds,” he said at the panchayat in the presence of Battisha Khap’s Choudhary Baba Surajmal. Earlier, BJP leaders used to talk to people and farmers to resolve their issues but now they were stubborn and didn’t care for people, Tikait alleged.

Speaking to media persons, he also accused BJP of dividing farmers community in 2013 through communal riots. Choudhary, Battisha Khap, Baba Surajmal assured Tikait that in spite of his old age and failing health, he would attend the mahapanchayat and members of Battisha Khap will extend their full support to it.

Meanwhile, Samyukta Kisan Morcha member and farmer leader Yogendra Yadav, while addressing a panchayat in Morna area of Muzaffarnagar district on Wednesday, called upon farmers to participate in mahapanchayat of Muzaffarnagar in large numbers. “It is a struggle to protect our generations and crops,” he claimed.
