Expect scattered rain, thunderstorm in Bihar this week, says MeT
PATNA: Light to moderate rain accompanied by high-velocity winds and hailstorm occurred at several places over northeast, northwest, southwest, and south-central parts of the state during the past 24 hours, said officials of Patna Meteorological Centre on Sunday.
While the average maximum temperature hovered around 34°C to 36°C, the minimum temperature was around 22°C to 24°C, officials said.
As per the weather bulletin on Sunday, Bagha received 40mm of rain, Chanpatia 37.2mm, Gaunaha 31.4mm, Motihari 22.1mm, and Dumri 20.2mm in past 24 hours.
Patna recorded the maximum temperature of 34.8°C, Gaya 34.7°C, Bhagalpur 33.5°C, Purnea 31.4°C, and Araria 31.4°C, as per data from the weather department.
According to the India Meteorological Department(IMD), scattered to fairly widespread rain and gusty winds are expected in Bihar for the next five days.
Abhishek Prakash, an official at Patna Meteorological Centre, said, “Easterly and south-easterly winds are dominating over the state up to 1.5km above mean sea level. In addition, an eastwest trough is running above cyclonic circulation over southwest Uttar Pradesh to Jharkhand and extends up to 0.9km above mean sea level.”
“As a result of the current meteorological mechanism, scattered to fairly widespread rain would prevail in the state for the next five days. Northern parts of the state may experience thunderstorm and lightning activities on Monday”, he added.
As per the local MeT office, Bihar has received a 9% surplus rain between March 1 to May 21.
Meanwhile, Patna Municipal Corporation already has commenced the second phase of drainage and sewage cleaning to ensure the smooth flow of stormwater during the rainy season and prevent waterlogging in low-lying areas.
