HYDERABAD: Two more rape cases of minor girls have come to light in Hyderabad even as the gang rape of a schoolgirl after a party at a pub in the city last week provoked outrage.

Both the cases surfaced on Sunday days after two girls were raped on May 31. Police said they have arrested two accused in the first incident and are yet to arrest the accused in the second case.DCP (south zone) P Sai Chaitanya said a 12-year-old girl was reported missing on May 31. On June 1, a police patrol found the girl in the Sultanshahi area and brought her to the local police station. Her statement was recorded and she was sent for medical examination.

According to the girl’s statement, a cab driver picked her up when she was on her way home from her grandmother’s house. “The driver took her to the residence of his friend in Kondurg village, where they sexually assaulted her . ... the cab driver dropped her at Sultanshahi in the early hours of June 1,” said Chaitanya. Police changed the FIR in the case and added the Indian Penal Code’s Sections 366 (A) (abduction), 376 (rape) and booked the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

“Two teams of police were formed to trace the accused. On June 3, police arrested the two accused, cab driver Shaik Kaleem Ali, 36, and Mohammed Luqman Ahmed Yazdani, 36. Both were sent in two-week judicial custody,” said Chaitanya.

Inspector S Sudershan said one Sufiyan, 21, an event management company employee, allegedly lured a salesgirl at a textile shop in Charminar, took her home, and allegedly raped her. “The next morning, he dropped her again at the shop. On Sunday, the girl complained to her mother that she was suffering from severe pain. When the mother inquired, she explained what Sufiyan had done,” said Sudershan.

The mother lodged a police complaint and the accused was booked for rape and under POCSO Act. “Search is on for the accused,” the inspector added.
