LAKHIMPUR KHERI: While soaring mercury has hit normal life leading to the closing of most of the government inter colleges and private schools alike for summer vacation, the basic education department has decided to reopen its schools across Uttar Pradesh from June 16.

The move has triggered unease among basic school teachers and students in view of the enervating heat conditions.

However, director general, school education, Vijay Kiran Anand said, “Education is very important and school is quite safe for children. There is nothing to worry about their well-being.” Although contractual teachers, including “Anudeshaks” (instructors) and the “Shikshamitras” (para teachers) have no problem, they have their different issues related to wages.

State president, UP Parishadiya Anudeshak Sangh (PAS), Vikram Singh said “The terms and conditions of ‘Anudeshak’ contracts restrict their service from July 1 to May 31 every year with provision of stipend for 11 months.”

“If government wants ‘Anudeshaks’ to resume their teaching duties from June 16, it should issue a circular regarding the payment of stipend for these 15 days,” Singh added.

“The ‘Anudeshaks’ are the employees of the government and they have no problem in following the government directives but the payment of wages is also their right on which the status should be clear,” he said.

Sanjay Mishra, state vice president and district president of the Adarsh Shikshamitra Association, also expressed similar views. Mishra, in a memorandum handed over to Kheri BSA, demanded similar demand of stipend for 15 days if called to duty from June 16.
