Is braver than Chitrangda says OTT to content films when it comes

- Rishabh Suri

Chitrangda Singh is pleased with the reception to her most recent project, Modern Love: Mumbai. And, she claims, this demonstrates that OTT is much more mature than films when it comes to topics like love and relationships. “The content on OTT is different and more mature than the one in films. It is true. I feel there is a certain kind of formula, a certain kind of script made for the big screen and the mass market. OTT is a little more brave to experiment,” shares the 45-year-old, who was earlier seen in Bob Biswas (2021) opposite actor Abhishek Bachchan.

She adds that when it comes to films, makers today are relying on hit-or-miss strategy to ascertain what exactly the viewers want. “There is an allowance for realism on the web. And for audiences today at home who are watching it, they expect that in the content. It’s a lot more mature, a lot more brave and experimental. There is still a lot of uncertainty about what people want to watch on the big screen.

The makers think, ‘Is it this or that formula?’ They are gauging what that change is all about. It’s still going on.”

Singh’s outing in the anthology — which features six stories about discovering and exploring love in all its shades and emotions — featured her with actor Arshad Warsi in the last tale titled Cutting Chai. She shares that she was a bit nervous about the project, which was about marriage. “We were slightly nervous when we started off, and even before we started, we knew there would be an immediate comparison with the western counterpart of the show,” she shares and gushes, “But the reaction has been very good.”
