Rain, thunderstorm predicted in S Bihar in next 3 days: MeT
PATNA: Widespread rain along with thunderstorms and squalls are likely to prevail in the southern districts of Bihar owing to further advancement of the southwest monsoon, said Patna Meteorological Centre in a special bulletin issued on Wednesday.
The MeT centre has also sounded a yellow alert for heavy rain accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms over northeast, south-central and southeast districts till June 19.
Light to moderate showers lashed several places in the past 24 hours with Amnour recording 58.6mm rain, Araria 56mm, Chargharia 53.4mm, Forbesganj 53.3mm, Galgalia 46.4mm, Triveniganj 39.2mm and Kishanganj 32.2mm, as per the weather bulletin.
Meteorologists attributed the prevalence of westerly and easterly winds to the sharp contrast in weather in southern and northern districts of the state. However, residents can expect relief from scorching heat as heavy rain is likely in the next three to four days.
Explaining Meteorological conditions, MeT official Kamini Kumari, said, “South-west monsoon is active over north Bihar and conditions are favourable for further advancement on monsoon into some more parts of the state during next 48 hours. Northern districts would experience scattered rain while fairly widespread would occur at southern districts for next four days.” Despite the arrival of monsoon in the state on June 13, residents are yet to get respite from heatwave conditions, especially in Patna and Buxar in the past 24 hours.
As per the weather bulletin, Buxar remained the hottest place recording a maximum temperature of 45°C, Patna 41.8°C, Aurangabad 41.5°C, Nalanda 41.4°C, Gaya 40.5°C, Jamui 40.2°C, and Bhagalpur 40°C.
