KATIHAR: A woman constable was thrown off a running train while resisting a loot bid in Bihar’s Katihar district early Wednesday morning, police said.

The incident took when Samastipur-Katihar Passenger train was about to reach Katihar junction. The constable, identified as Arti Kumari, is posted in Nawada and was on her way to her home town Katihar during leave.

The injured constable was spotted lying near the track and was rushed to Katihar district hospital, where the doctors referred her to Katihar Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

“About four miscreants tried to snatch my purse and mobile phone. When I resisted their bid, they pushed me off the train,” the injured constable said. The doctor treating her said her right leg was fractured and she had also sustained head injuries.

Katihar superintendent of police (rail) did not respond to calls.

Meanwhile, neither the Government Railway Police (GRP) nor the Bihar Police have so far registered a case. “The incident took place on a running train and hence the onus is on the railway police,” a police officer posted at the additional town police station said.

Station house officer (SHO) of additional town police station in Katihar, Rabindra Kumar, said, “We have not yet recorded her statement. Once it’s done, it will be clear under whose jurisdiction the incident took place.”

He, however, said police have launched a manhunt to nab the miscreants.

Three days back, an Army jawan, who was returning to resume his duty at Tezpur, was found dead by the side of railway tracks in Katihar.
