Desi cybercitizens were amazed when India’s popular street food, bhelpuri, scored big in a recent episode of the culinary show Masterchef Australia, when chef-restaurateur Sarah Todd made bhelpuri in a 10minute challenge. In fact, the judges went gaga over the ‘complex flavours’ of the savoury snack.

When a Twitter user, Pratyasha Rath, shared a note about the episode, the comment section was flooded with memes and jokes about*

She wrote, “Someone made Bhel Puri in Masterchef Australia and the judges were like — ‘You packed such complex flavours into this and the raw onions were amazing and how did you manage to do this in 10 minutes (sic).”

A Twitter user wrote, “Once they had made Khandvi and were calling it pasta or something. There is a Gujju woman running a restaurant in Australia and she taught them how. Her “pasta” is very famous and her restaurant is

When we reached out to Todd, who stays in India and is currently in Australia for the show, she said that though she hasn’t followed the memes that have gone viral on the internet, she has been receiving messages (about the bhelpuri episode) from her Indians friends and fans. “How could they (the judges) not love it? I wasn’t surprised by their reaction. In fact, I expected it. I lost my mind when I ate bhelpuri for the first time,” she shares.
