Brad Pitt gets candid about life, retirement

-

In a rare, candid conversation, Hollywood actor Brad Pitt recently opened up about his sobriety, loneliness, and life following the end of his marriage to actor Angelina Jolie. In an interview with the latest issue of GQ (the UK edition), the leading man, known for his performances in Fight Club (1999), The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) and Once Upon a Time In Hollywood (2019), also added that his cinematic career is nearing its end.

‘I CONSIDER MYSELF ON MY LAST LEG’

The actor, who will soon be seen in Bullet Train, shared, “I consider myself on my last leg. This is the last semester or trimester. What is this section going to be? And how do I want to design that?” Pitt added, “I am a murderer. I’m a lover. I have the capacity for great empathy and I can devolve into pettiness.”

DIVORCE AND SOBRIETY

It was when Jolie filed for divorce in 2016 that the actor started getting sober and attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. “I had a really cool men’s group here that was really private and selective, so it was safe. Because I’d seen things of other people who had been recorded while they were spilling their guts, and that’s just atrocious.” the 58-year-old shared. About quitting smoking during the pandemic, Pitt said, “I don’t have that ability to do just one or two a day. It’s not in my makeup.

I’m all in. And I’m going to drive into the ground. I’ve lost my privileges.”

LONELINESS

“I think all our hearts are broken,” shared the father of six — three biological and three adopted — and added, “I always felt very alone in my life, alone growing up as a kid, alone even out here, and it’s really not till recently that I have had a greater embrace of my friends and family. What’s that line? It was either Rilke or Einstein, believe it or not, but it was something about when you can walk with the paradox, when you carry real pain and real joy simultaneously, this is maturity, this is growth.”*
