PATNA AIIMS GETS A NEW CHIEF; ED NAMED FOR UPCOMING AIIMS IN DARBHANGA
PATNA: Dr Gopal Krushna Pal, professor of physiology at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Pondicherry, has been appointed the new executive director of Patna’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), as per a government notification issued late Thursday and communicated on Friday.
Dr Madhabananda Kar, professor and head, department of surgical oncology, AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, has been named the executive director of the upcoming AIIMS in Darbhanga, as per a notification of the secretariat of the appointments committee of cabinet of the department of personnel and training (DoPT), which also named executive directors of six other AIIMS.
Dr Ashutosh Biswas, professor and head of unit, department of medicine, AIIMS, Delhi, has been named the director of AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. He is presently the director of Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Sheikhpura, which he joined in Patna on May 2.
It was not immediately known whether Dr Biswas will join his new assignment, as he did not respond to phone calls or text messages. “Improving patientcare management by toning up hospital facilities, providing on-campus safety to doctors, patients, nurses and students and creating a vibrant atmosphere for patient management, research and academic growth, besides providing best administration at all levels, will be topmost on my agenda when I join the AIIMS, Patna,” said Dr GK Pal over phone from Puducherry. “I will join AIIMS, Patna, as soon as I am relieved from my parent institution (JIPMER) and official formalities, which are most likely to be completed by mid-July,” he said.
Dr Pal joined as a permanent faculty member at JIPMER, Pondicherry, following his selection through the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in 1996. Dr Pal has won many awards, including the ICMR Scientist Award for best biomedical research in 1998.
