Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president Mahendra Bhatt on Thursday filed his nomination papers for Rajya Sabha elections in Dehradun. BJP state in-charge Dushyant Kumar Gautam and chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami were also present.

In the state assembly premises, Bhatt presented the nomination papers in four sets before the Election Officer in the presence of the senior party leaders, ministers, MLAs and officials.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister expressed his gratitude to the central leadership including Prime Minister Narendra Modi that they have given the opportunity to the hardworking and popular worker who rose from the grassroots, to go to Rajya Sabha.

Describing Bhatt’s representation as an honour for every party worker, Dhami expressed hope that he will prove helpful in improving the coordination between the Centre and the state and will also become the voice of the regional people in the Upper House.

Bhatt, who became president of Uttarakhand BJP in July 2022, expressed his gratitude to the entire central leadership including PM Modi, party national president JP Nadda and CM Dhami. “I will try to live up to the trust they have reposed in me. I am extremely impressed by the local development policy of Anil Baluni (whose tenure as Rajya Sabha member from Uttarakhand is coming to end in April). I will work to take it forward”.

Bhatt said his priority will be to establish better coordination between the Centre and the state and bring as many schemes as possible for the development of the state. “Development plans, especially in the hilly areas, should be implemented at a fast pace so that the general public can avail the benefits in these areas, including the border areas”.

Anil Baluni said that Mahendra Bhatt’s journey from booth level to state president is exemplary for every worker. “By selecting him, the party leadership has created new enthusiasm and joy among all the hardworking and capable workers. I am confident that he will make his best contribution in the Rajya Sabha for regional development and as a representative of the sentiments of the local people”.

The last date for the filing of the nomination for the polls was February 15. Polling, if required, will be held on February 27 and the results will be announced on the same day.
