After physics and biology, the question and answer papers of maths and chemistry in the ongoing intermediate science (ISc) examination by Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) were allegedly leaked online on various social media platforms on Wednesday and Friday, people aware of the matter said on Saturday.

“The JAC chemistry exam question papers were leaked in Telegram and WhatsApp groups 15-20 minutes before the exam started at 2 p.m. yesterday. The questions were found to be similar in the question papers given to the students inside the exam halls when they were matched after 5 p.m. I got the information in the evening from Govindpur in Dhanbad. Our student wing, Jharkhand State Students Union (JSSU), is taking it up with the JAC authorities and launching agitation,” Vijay Singh, Jharkhand Bhasha Khatiyan Sangharsh Samiti (JBKSS) Central spokesperson and in-charge of Dhanbad Lok Sabha, told HT on Saturday.

People close to the developments said that the chemistry question paper started circulating in JAC 10th, JAC 11th, and JAC 12th WhatsApp groups from 1:43 p.m. on Friday. Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) district convenor Munna Yaduvanshi also confirmed the development and demanded that the chemistry exam be cancelled and a re-examination be held.

“Action must be taken against the gang making question papers viral repeatedly,” said Yaduvanshi.

However, Dhanbad district education officer (DEO) Dinesh Kumar Mishra denied any information about the question paper leaking from the exam centres. “Question papers are opened at the exam centres at fixed time. There’s no question of paper leaking from centres,” said Mishra.

Jamshedpur DEO Nirmala Deo Kumari Barelia said, “Some people may be uploading old question papers on Telegram on their own. We have no information about the question paper leak from any exam centre in the East Singhbhum district.”
