DHANBAD: Jharkhand chief minister Champai Soren on Sunday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of plundering the mineral resources of the state while depriving the tribal, native residents, minorities, and backward class people of opportunities for education, healthcare facilities, and other welfare schemes.

The chief minister on Sunday laid the foundation of the ₹263 crore Barbendia bridge in Jamtara.

Addressing a crowd in the presence of several leaders, including Irfan Ansari, Jamtara MLA, Furkan Ansari, former Jamtara MLA, and others, he said, “The BJP has made all efforts to destabilize the Hemant Soren government ever since it came into existence after receiving a clear mandate from the people in the elections.”

“They started levelling unfounded charges and making false accusations against the Hemant Soren government, also accusing us of not doing enough during the time of Covid. However, the fact remains that the false claims of development of the double engine government of BJP and NDA came before the people during Covid-19 pandemic, as no hospital was equipped with the required facilities, and the majority were deprived of ventilators. But our government handled the situation quite well, working on a war footing and providing the best facilities to the people,” said Soren.

“They also accuse others of the lack of proper development of the state, but the fact remains that ever since the foundation of the state, they (BJP-NDA) remained in power for the maximum period,” charged Soren.

“They do not work for the favour of tribal and native residents (Adivasi and Moolvasi) of Jharkhand; rather, they vigorously work on creating propaganda and promoting their government on false grounds,” said Soren while slamming the previous BJP government in the state. He also charged the BJP with not understanding the grief of residents. “This land of Jharkhand never remained poor; rather, it always teemed with resources. However, the tribal and native residents always remained poor and deprived,” added Soren.

HT couldn’t elicit a response from the BJP on the matter.

Meanwhile, Soren also laid the foundation stone of the Peertand Mega Lift Irrigation Project in Giridih district on Sunday.

The project involves ₹639.20 crore and will help irrigate 8,531 hectares of land spread across 17 panchayats.

The panchayats include residents of Kumharlalo, Bharti Chalkari, Chirki, Madhuban, Bandh, Chilga, Palganj, Nawadih, Vishanpur, Kharpoka, Simrakodi, Harladih, Mandro, Khukhra, Tuio, Bandgaon, and Kudko Panchayat.

Under the project, a barrage will be constructed on the Barakar River near Dudhnia village under the Kumharlalo Panchayat, and circular irrigation facilities will be provided in the identified area through a water pipeline with a pump motor. The target has been set to complete the scheme in three years.

While laying the foundation stone, Soren said that his government was working to bring the ambitious schemes of the state government to every household by the aspirations of the people.

“The state government is determined to ensure that water for irrigation reaches the fields of small and big farmers of Jharkhand. By availing the benefit of this scheme, the economic condition of the farmer brothers here will be improved,” he said.
