Jamshedpur: 7 youths killed in road mishaps

NH-18 STRETCH FROM PIPLA TO KANDERBERA CHOWK HAS TURNED INTO A BLACK SPOT WITH 13 DEATHS SINCE JANUARY

At least six youths died in road mishaps on National Highway (NH-18) under Chandil and MGM police station (PS) limits while another died in a separate road accident in Jamshedpur on Monday, people familiar with the matter said on Tuesday.

The Babakuti Ashram and Adityapur-2 colony were in shock in the morning of Tuesday as funeral procession­s of four youths were taken out together. The four were killed when their car crashed into a truck near Kanderbera turn on NH-18 under Chandil PS around 5.00-5.30 PM on Monday.

“The car in which the four were travelling was at high speed and it crashed onto a truck parked on the side of the road at Kanderbera chowk under Chandil PS. The car was so damaged that we had to use a crane to pull it out from under the truck. All the youths were from Adityapur. The bodies have been handed over to the families,” Barun Yadav, Chandil PS officer-in-charge (OC), told HT on Tuesday.

The NH-18 stretch from Pipla to Kanderbera chowk has turned into a black spot with rash driving, stunt biking and high-speed racing, resulting in 13 deaths on NH-18 alone out of 16 accidental deaths in Chandil Sub-division during the past 78 days since January 1.

It may be noted that Jamshedpur had woken up to a shocking incident of six youths from Adityapur Babakuti Ashram dying when their car crashed onto a road side tree near Circuit House roundabout under Bistupur PS in Jamshedpur on January 1, after celebratin­g New Year.

The deceased in Monday’s accident were identified as 25-year-old Abhay Ranjan Singh alias Nikhil from Babakuti Ashram, 26-year-old Suraj Aryan from Road No-22, 22-year-old Sanskar Mishra from Road No-17, 24-year-old Navneet Sharma from Road No-21 of Adityapur-2 colony.

In another incident, 19-yearold Asif Kamal and 20-year-old Asmit Chabra died when their car turned turtle after hitting the divider near Pipla under MGM PS area. Their friend Shubham Gupta has been badly injured. Police rushed them to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) where Asif and Ashmit were declared brought dead.

Subham was undergoing treatment at the Tata Main Hospital (TMH). Shubham said Asif was driving the car at the time of the accident when they were returning after visiting Chota Bankin Dam.

Meanwhile, 21-year-old Ankit Kumar Singh died when he fell from his motorcycle losing control and a truck coming from behind crushed him to death near Tata Pigment Gate under Jugsalai PS area.
