BJP chief slams JMM over ED raids

- Raj Kumar

RANCHI: Jharkhand Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president and former chief minister Babulal Marandi on Friday slammed the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leaders over the series of Directorate of Enforcement (ED) raids and a string of accidents in the state.

The development came after an ED raid at the residence of a lady police sub-inspector of Jharkhand Police in connection with laundering money earned from illegal sand mining, and six girls sustained injuries from a sand-laden truck in Hazaribagh on Thursday.

“Six daughters were crushed by a truck loaded with illegal sand in Hazaribagh, but they will not bow down. Recently, a bus laden with illegal sand collided in Tupudana, and a journalist’s wife and daughter lost their lives. They will say that they will not bow down. Cow smugglers crushed to death a daughter of a tribal family, Inspector Sandhya Toppo. They will say that they will not bow down,” his statement reads.

“Today, there is news of the recovery of cash earned from the illegal sand business from the location of Tupudana police station in-charge Meera Singh, who was jailed for bribery. It is proved that money from illegal businesses is reaching the ruling leaders through agents, police station officers, and senior officers. But they will say that they will not bow down,” Marandi’s statement further read.

JMM spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya could not be available for comment.

However, Congress state president Rajesh Thakur said, “Babulal is a non-serious leader, who, after leaving BJP, had said he would commit suicide by jumping from Qutub Minar but ended up rejoining party. Since rejoining, he has been raising non-serious issues. Instead of addressing the electoral bond scam, he is focusing on matters that tarnish the government’s image, although the state government has no involvement in these issues. Regarding the ED raid, everyone knows how the ED is targeting a particular group and not touching the BJP leaders.”
