The Bharatiya Janata Party government in Uttarakhand has been successful in fulfilling the promises made to people, said chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday even as the opposition Congress accused the party of “spreading lies” alleging that the party failed on all fronts in last two years.

Chief minister Dhami who completed two years in the office said that the BJP-led state government has taken “unprecedented decisions” in the state since its formation.

Dhami, while addressing an event in Dehradun, began his speech by saluting the statehood agitators. “Under their inspiration, we are trying to take the state forward,” he said.

“We are living up to the responsibility you assigned us two years ago. The respect of Uttarakhand has increased all over the world. Our state attained all around development. We also made tough decisions. Our anti-copying law became a model for the country. The BJP government in Uttarakhand has been successful in fulfilling the promises made to people,” he said.

Dhami said his government fulfilled the promise of introducing Uniform Civil Code (UCC) , adding, that “it will uplift, protect and empower women and they will get the right to live with dignity.”The chief minister said his government also brought an anti-riot law under which if any government property is damaged, the compensation will be recovered from the rioters.

“Before the model code of conduct came into force, our government laid the foundation stone of projects worth more than ₹18,000 in two to three months. A network of roads is being laid rapidly in the state. Efforts are being taken to make the Char Dham Yatra easier for the devotees,” he said.

Dhami said that every village in the state has electricity now and water connection is

given to households at just ₹1 under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

“Today 7,000,00 families have got water connections,” he said.“Ayushman cards of more than seven lakh people have been made. A better future for women and children is being ensured. A satellite centre of AIIMS will soon be built in Udham Singh Nagar,” Dhami said.Uttarakhand Congress chief Karan Mahara said the BJP government failed on all fronts in the last two years.

Mahara said, “The last two years of the BJP government were disappointing. The BJP failed on all fronts. The last two years saw deteriorating law and order situation, corruption, UKSSSC recruitment scam, pro mafia liquor policy.”

Reacting to Dhami’s remarks, Uttarakhand Congress president Karan Mahara said that the reality on ground is different from BJP’s portrayal.

“The BJP should stop spreading lies about their two years of the government. The first two years of the BJP government were a disappointment. The reality on the ground is different from their portrayal.”

He said, “The BJP failed on all fronts. The law and order deteriorated significantly. The Pauri Garhwal murdered

receptionist woman is still awaiting justice, affected residents in Joshimath await proper rehabilitation, collective negligence led to electrocution of 16 people in Chamoli, paper leaks deprived youths of their due rights, unemployment is rising.”

Mahara said that the BJP can brag about bringing UCC but it won’t help the common man. “The government should answer what they did in the last two years to generate employment, control inflation, improve education and healthcare services in the state,” he said.

Dhami was sworn in as the 12th chief minister of Uttarakhand, along with eight other cabinet ministers, on March 23, 2022. His swearing-in ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top BJP leaders. Bucking the trend of the BJP and the Congress alternating in power in Uttarakhand, BJP had registered a remarkable victory in the assembly elections by winning 47 out of 70 seats, even though Dhami lost by over 6,500 votes in Khatima constituency. Dhami, later in June same year, won Champawat by-poll with a massive margin of over 55,000 votes, defeating Congress’s Nirmala Gahtori.
