Postal ballots for officials, media persons

JAMSHEDPUR: Employees of essential services and media personnel will get to vote through postal ballots for the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat from May 20 to May 22, election officials said here on Wednesday.

Polling is scheduled for May 25 for the Jamshedpur parliament­ary constituen­cy.

“As per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI), all officers and employees (of all grades) and media personnel will get to vote through postal ballots for the Jamshed pur parliament­ary seat between May 20 and 22. Staff, as per the lists submitted by the authoritie­s of such department­s and media houses, will be issued Form 12 D by the returning officers, and the forms will have to be submitted to the postal ballots cell to make them eligible for voting through postal ballots,” Ananya Mittal, East Singhbhum district election officer cum returning officer of the Jamshedpur (9) Lok Sabha constituen­cy, told HT on Wednesday.

The DC Ananya Mittal and senior superinten­dent of police (SSP) Kishore Kaushal also held meetings and inspected interstate and inter-district checkposts at Hara, Potka, and Jamshedpur Circle offices on Wednesday.

The DC said intermedia­te strong rooms were being set up at the cluster centres. “Jamshedpur block office will be the cluster centre for Potka and Jugsalai assembly segments. EVMs with polling parties and reserve EVMs will be kept here,” said Mittal.

SSP Kaushal said that every single vehicle was being checked at the inter-state and inter-district checkposts around the clock.

“Static as well as mobile surveillan­ce teams have been checking every vehicle at seven inter-state checkposts on the West Bengal border and five on the Odisha borders, as well as six inter-district checkposts. Final assessment of para-military forces deployment at critical and vulnerable booths is being done,” added Kaushal.
