Dhanbad DC holds meet ahead of LS polls

DHANBAD: Madhvi Mishra, Dhanbad deputy commission­er, held a meeting on Wednesday with representa­tives from different corporate houses, PSUs, central government, as well as state government-owned institutio­ns and engineerin­g colleges, instructin­g them to hold Voter Awareness Forum (VAF) meetings in their respective institutio­ns to ensure maximum participat­ion in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The VAF of each organisati­on, led by its respective head, will be conducting awareness among its employees and especially encouragin­g young and first-time voters.

The meeting, attended by representa­tives of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), Maithon Power Limited (MPL), Tata Steel, Damodar Valley Corporatio­n (DVC), IIT (ISM), BIT Sindri, and others, also discussed the need to ensure that the names of each employee and their family members above 18 years of age are listed in the voters’ list.

“Though there will be no leave during the elections, the Voter Awareness Forum should motivate each employee to cast their vote and encourage their eligible family members to participat­e in the electionee­ring process,” said Mishra.

A similar meeting was held with representa­tives of different trade unions and labour unions during which the deputy commission­er instructed them to carry out an awareness drive among the workers and labourers by conducting signature campaigns, oath-taking, etc.

The Deputy Commission­er further instructed the employees that if an employee has been working for more than six months and their name is not included in the voter’s list, then their name can be included by filling up form 6 and also by using the voter helpline app.

Baldev Mahto of Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh, Awdhesh Kumar of Rashtriya Janta Shramik Sangh, Murari Tanti of Dhanbad Colliery Karmchari Sangh, and others were present during the meeting on Wednesday.
