Man facing 18 cases arrested from Doon
The special task force (STF) of the state police has arrested a man who was involved in 18 criminal cases in Haridwar and neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, a police officer said.
The charges against him include rioting, attempted murder, voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation, and those under Arms Act, Goonda Act, and Gangsters Act.
The accused was identified as
Deepak Saini (25), a resident of Bhagwanpur in Haridwar.
The accused was living in Dehradun’s Bidholi area after assuming a different identity.
Senior superintendent of police (STF) Ayush Agarwal said, “The accused Deepak Saini is facing several cases registered at Bhagwanpur, Laksar, Gangnahar police stations of Haridwar district and Nagal police station of neighbouring Uttar Pradesh. According to the information available with us, at least 18 cases are registered against accused Deepak Saini. He is also designated as a repeat offender at Bhagwanpur police station. The accused, along with his associates, opened indiscriminate fire on the other party on March 11, 2024 in which a youth named Gautam was injured. In connection with the incident, a first information report (FIR) was registered at Bhagwanpur police station. For his arrest, Haridwar senior superintendent of police had announced a reward of ₹25,000. He was not using his mobile phone. It was difficult for us to track him. He had assumed a different identity. We were able to arrest him from the Premnagar area of Dehradun on the basis of information collected manually.”
