14 ARRESTED WITH ILLEGAL LIQUOR IN MULTIPLE RAIDS IN HARIDWAR

HARIDWAR: The police arrested at least 14 people and seized illegal liquor worth lakhs in multiple raids carried out in last 24 hours across Haridwar of Uttarakhan­d, police said on Friday.

With the model code of conduct in place ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha elections, the district election administra­tion is taking stringent action to rein in illegal liquor and cash supply meant for luring voters, officials familiar with the matter said.

According to Haridwar senior superinten­dent of police Pramendra Dobhal “round-theclock checking of vehicles is being done in the entire district, especially near the check posts set up along Uttar Pradesh border.”“All station house officers have been directed to conduct regular checking of vehicles,” he said.

In the first incident, Pathri police on Friday carried out raids at multiple locations seizing 140 litre of illegal country made liquor from three accused. The police also destroyed 7,000 litre of lahan (raw material used for making liquor).

“Three people, identified as Anuraj Ram, Shubham Ram and Kalam Singh, involved in making liquor illegally at Bishanpur Kundi, Pherupur and Dungarpur were arrested and 140 litre of liquor was seized. The police also destroyed 7,000 litre lahan. A case has been filed against the three accused under relevant provisions of the Excise Act,” said Pathri police station sub-inspector Naveen Chauhan.

In the second incident, two accused, identified as Atar Singh (44) and Inder Singh (41) were arrested by police under the Excise Act and the Arms Act from Buggawala for making liquor illegally.

In the third incident on Thursday, a flying squad caught a truck at Malakpur Chungi with 275 caskets of English liquor.The driver and conductor were unable to show proper documents and were arrested, said a police official. In the fourth incident on Thursday, four people were arrested from city police station area with 120 quarter bottles of country made liquor and 36 caskets of mixed country and English liquor.

In the fifth incident , police arrested three people with 40 litre of illegal liquor.
