DEHRADUN/PITHORAGARH: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president JP Nadda on Thursday said the Congress did not “leave land, water or air when it came to scams. In all three spheres, air, water and land, there were scams”.

Nadda, who started his twoday tour of the state on Thursday, said this in his first election rally in Pithoragarh, where BJP’s Ajay Tamta is contesting from Almora Pithoragarh Lok Sabha seat.

He said, “You have to make a choice between those who understood the pain of the state, those who understood the aspirations of the youth, those who developed Uttarakhand, those who empowered women, those who worked to bring you into the mainstream and those who have betrayed you for decades.”

The BJP national president, while talking about Congress rule, said their rule has witnessed scandals such as coal scam, bofors scam, submarine scam, 2G and 3G scam, commonwealth scam, Agusta Westland VVIP chopper scam.

“They didn’t leave land, water or air when it came to scams. In all three spheres, air water and land, there were scams,” he said.

Nadda said the Congress questioned the surgical strikes and sought proof for the same. “PM Modi gave a befitting reply to Pakistan.

PM straightway told Pakistan that it had made a mistake and it would have to bear the consequences. Should such people be allowed to come forward?”

In September 2016, the Indian Army launched surgical strikes against terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The strike on September 28, 2016, was in response to an attack by Pakistan-based terrorists on an army base in Kashmir’s Uri on September 18 in which 19 soldiers were killed.

Nadda said a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP talks of Tamil Nadu as a separate nation.

“Should we allow such people to come forward? If this country is safe in anyone’s hands, it is in the hands of PM Modi. If anyone can ensure the development of this country, it is PM Modi. So as your national responsibility, you have to make Ajay Tamta victorious,” he said.

Saying Devbhoomi, the land of Gods, is also ‘Veer Bhoomi’ (the land of brave), the BJP chief said, “This is the land where people have always been ready for the protection of the country, for sacrificing their lives for it. If Congress betrayed you for 40 years, Modi government ensured one rank, one pension scheme for the brave people.”

Nadda said PM Modi has said the third decade of 21st century belongs to Uttarakhand and “I see PM Modi’s vision is already getting implemented on the ground here. The ganga of development is flowing here unimpeded.” He further said that people of Uttarakhand ensured victory on all five seats in 2014 and 2019 polls, which further strengthened PN Modi. “By again ensuring the victory on all five seats, you will further strengthen PM Modi and contribute in his vison of making India the third largest economy in the world”.

The BJP leader also spoke in detail about the development projects initiated at the nation and state level under the BJP rule.

“4 crore houses have been built, including 1 lakh in Uttarakhand and 11,000 in Pithoragarh. Under the Ujjwala Yojana, 11 crore people including 1 lakh people in Uttarakhand have been provided gas connections. Under Jal Nal Yojana, 2.4 lakh tap connections have been provided in the state .... Could you have imagined the opening of medical colleges here and in Almora?

Over ₹ 16,000 crore is being spent on the Karanprayag railway project and over ₹ 12,000 crore on the char dham allweather road project. Could you have imagined such a huge amount would have been spent on connectivity under Congress rule,” he said.

Nadda said he is happy that Uttarakhand is ahead in the implementation of the uniform civil code (UCC). “Under the vibrant village scheme, we are working for the development of border villages, considering them as the first villages. In Pithoragarh, 27 border villages are being developed under this scheme.”

Earlier, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami welcomed the party national president in the border district of the state. He said under his leadership, the party is expanding across the country.

“The target of getting 400 plus seats is just not a slogan but a key to a developed India. And Uttarakhand will make its contribution in this by ensuring historic victory on all five seats in the state.”

After Pithoragarh, Nadda addressed another rally in Dehradun district.

While addressing an election rally in favour of the party candidate from Tehri Lok Sabha seat Mala Raja Lakshmi Shah in Dehradun district, he said Modi has changed the definition of politics. “Now what works is politics of performance, what works is politics of development and politics of accountability. not the politics of caste, appeasement and vote bank”

Reacting to the BJP’s remarks, state Congress vice president Mathura Dutt Joshi said, “Everyone in the state knows who betrayed the youth of the state in terms of employment, who has betrayed the parents of the murdered Pauri receptionist girl, who are agitating for justice, who have betrayed the women of the state who suffering from increasing incidents of crime against women?

Like PM Modi, Nadda has also avoided talking about the pressing issues of the state and instead tried to diver the attention of the people by attacking Congress.”
