WANTED BIHAR GANGSTER ARRESTED
PATNA: A notorious gangster of North Bihar who hit the headlines for the 2005 abduction of a DPS student, Kislay Gupta, was arrested on Sunday from IndiaNepal border, police said.
The arrested gangster has been identified as Rakesh Kumar alias Chunnu Thakur, 46, and was carrying a reward of Rs 3 lakh on his head.
Kislay’s abduction from Patna’s Patel Nagar had drawn the attention of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee too, who at a public meeting asked, “Mera Kislay kahan hai (Where is my Kislay?)”
He was evading arrest in at least four criminal cases, including the murder case of Kundan Singh, an agent of Bairiya bus stand which falls under the jurisdiction of Ahiyapur police station of Muzaffarpur district.
Kundan Singh had been gunned down on February 1, 2019.
Police said that the arrested law breaker had been hiding in Nepal for a long time and operating his gang from Kathmandu. He was taken into custody when he was trying to enter India.
Over two dozen cases of murder, extortion and kidnapping are lodged against Thakur, a resident of Gannipur locality in Muzaffarpur town, across several districts of the state.
“He confessed to his involvement in many criminal cases. Later, a police team raided his house and recovered an automatic revolver, four live cartridges. A separate case was registered at Mohammadapur police station against his wife, Vandana, on the charges of possessing illegal firearms and was forwarded to judicial custody, “said Rakesh Kumar, Muzaffarpur senior superintendent of police (SSP), Rakesh Kumar.
