Arms dealer, murder accused held, pistols seized from sister
JAMSHEDPUR: Notorious arms dealer and wanted in several cases of murder and extortion Puran Chowdhary alias Saurav Chowdhary alias Deepak was finally arrested from Dimna Hill Point Hotel on NH-18 (earlier NH-33) under MGM police station (PS) in Jamshedpur on Sunday night, police confirmed here on Tuesday.
“Notorious criminal Puran Chowdhary, wanted in Manpreet Singh murder cases under Sidhgora PS and an extortion case under MGM PS, have been arrested from Dimna Hill Point Hotel under MGM PS limits. A pistol with two cartridges have been seized from his possession while two more pistols along with 10 live cartridges and three magazines have been seized from the possession of his sister in Rajasthan with help of Rajasthan police,” Kishore Kaushal, Jamshedpur senior superintendent of police (SSP), told HT on Tuesday.
Police said that Puran”s sister Sumitra Chowdhury too has been arrested following the recovery of two pistols and ammunition from the house of his sister and brother-in-law in Ganeshnagar colony under Murlipura PS in Jaipur (West) in Rajasthan with the help of Rajasthan police.
Puran, a resident of Debun Bagan under Golmuri PS in Jamshedpur, was not just absconding in the Manpreet Singh murder case in 2022 and extortion and loot cases under MGM PS in 2019 and 2023 but has at least 11 criminal cases pending against him in Jamshedpur and Asansol (West Bengal).
Yet, Puran was posting his photos and live videos with modern weapons on social media platforms regularly. He was also accused of supplying arms to the murder accused in a murder in Jharkhand last year and was arrested. Earlier, he was arrested by Asansol police but escaped by during upon police patrol party in 2019.

In another breakthrough, Mango police arrested Rahul Singh, a shooter in the Amarnath Singh gang, on Tuesday. The SSP said that a pistol and two cartridges have been seized from him. “Eight cases are pending against Rahul Singh and he was wanted in Aman Yadav murder case too,” said Kaushal. He was fired upon in 2018 with bullet hitting his stomach but survived.
