Illicit liquor seized in Dhanbad and Bokaro

IN DHANBAD, POLICE SEIZED A HUGE QUANTITY OF LIQUOR STOCKED IN A GROCERY SHOP IN THE EGARKUND AREA OF CHIRKUNDA POLICE STATION AREA OF NIRSA BLOCK

Amidst a heightened level of surveillan­ce against the stocking of prohibited materials ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Jharkhand Police seized huge quantities of illicit liquor in Dhanbad and Bokaro, officials said on Thursday.

In Dhanbad, police seized a huge quantity of liquor stocked in a grocery shop in the Egarkund area of Chirkunda police station area of Nirsa Block. The police in Bokaro seized 1,600 kg of Jawa besides 75 litres of traditiona­l liquor made from Jawa Mahua from Chando forest under Petarwar Police Station.

Rajat Mani Bakhla, the subdivisio­nal police officer (SDPO) of Nirsa said, “The raid was conducted late last (Wednesday) night based on a tip-off received by HP Janardhana­n, senior superinten­dent of police (SSP) of Dhanbad at a grocery shop operated by Tapan Ghosh. The police also arrested the shop operator besides seizing other materials like eight bottles of beer, six bottles of 375 ml whiskey, and 12 bottles of different brands of country-made liquor.”

Meanwhile, in the raid conducted at the Petarwar police station area of Bokaro under the leadership of Sunil Dev, excise inspector of Bokaro, in associatio­n with Bokaro Police, over 1600 kg of Jawa and 75 litres of traditiona­l liquor were seized.

Sunil Kumar Chaudhary, assistant excise commission­er of Bokaro, said that the seizures were made as part of a raid conducted as per the instructio­n of Vijaya Jadhav, Bokaro deputy commission­er.
