Need to protect our Constitution: JMM

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) marked the 133rd birth anniversary of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar on Sunday by organising a day-long protest programme at the Bapu Vatika in Ranchi’s Morabadi Ground against the “anti-constitutional policies of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Union government.

Party general secretary and senior spokesperson, Supriyo Bhattacharya, said, “We remember Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar for drafting our Constitution, but the same is in danger. Every day, the right to speak and the right to live with dignity are being violated in the country.”

He said the tribute to Ambedkar would be saving the Constitution, which he had drafted for the betterment of the country and its people.

“At this time when the constitution and constitutional rights are in danger, the true tribute to Baba Saheb will be to protect his constitution. Today, the ruling party of the country wants to abolish this Constitution, and we should vow to save it at any cost,” he said.

JMM Ranchi district president Mushtaq Alam echoed Bhattacharya.

“By saving the Constitution, we can save our country. The BJP-led Union government has almost killed democracy in a dictatorial manner in the last ten years and has tried to destroy the Constitution. We are listening to their Lok Sabha candidates saying on the open platform that when they are voted to power in 2024, they will change the Constitution,” he said.

BJP spokesperson Pratul Nath Shahdeo, reacting to this protest, said, “The Constitution of the country is really in danger under these people (India Bloc), as it has witnessed an emergency and a state-sponsored scam of ₹70,000 crore under them. The protest is nothing but an attempt to put the constitution in danger again by coming into power.”
