Nomination filing for four LS seats begins in J’khand

: Nomination filing for the Singhbhum, Khunti, Lohardaga, and Palamu Lok Sabha seats started on Thursday, while the same will commence for the Jamshedpur seat on April 29, people close to the developmen­ts said.

Polling in Singhbhum, Khunti, Lohardaga, and Palamu seats will be held on May 13, whereas polling for the Jamshedpur seat will take place on May 25, officials aware of the matter said on Thursday.

“Nomination started today for the (10) Singhbhum (ST) seat, and the last date for filing nomination­s will be April 25, while scrutiny of the nomination papers will be done on April 26. The last date for withdrawal of nomination papers will be April 29. Polling will be held on May 13, and counting on June 4,” Kuldip Chowdhury, district election officer (DEO) and West Singhbhum deputy commission­er (DC), told HT on Thursday.

He said that the Seraikela assembly segment under the Singhbhum LS seat would have 431 booths, 284 in the Chaibasa segment, 267 in Majhgaon, 233 in Jagannathp­ur, 264 in Mano

harpur, and 236 booths in the Chakradhar­pur assembly segment, making it a total of 1,712 booths.

The Singhbhum LS seat has 709,000 male voters and 733,000 female electors out of 1.4 million voters. The constituen­cy will have 122 women-managed booths, two PWD booths, one youth-managed booth, and a unique booth.

“Polling will be held through VVPAT and EVMs in all the booths. The first randomizat­ion of the EVMs and VVPAT was done on April 15,” added Chowdhury.

Seraikela-Kharsawan district deputy commission­er (DC) Ravishanka­r Shukla said that all preparatio­ns have been completed for holding peaceful, free and fair polling in Seraikela assembly segment under the Singhbhum LS seat and Kharsawan assembly segment under the Khunti LS seat on May 13.

“Nomination filing started today, and vigilance at interdistr­ict checkposts has been intensifie­d. Static surveillan­ce teams (Seats) and flying surveillan­ce teams (FSTs) have been activated. There are 431 booths in Seraikela under the Singhbhum LS seat and 282 booths in the Kharsawan assembly segment under the Khunti LS seat,” added Shukla.

East Singhbhum district DC and DEO Ananya Mittal said that the nomination filing for the Jamshedpur LS seat would start on April 29, and polling would be held in six assembly segments on May 25.

“We again appeal to the people to get their names registered in the voter roll by filing form-6 until April 26 for those who have attained the age of 18 years by April 1, 2024, or beyond that age, eligible for inclusion in the voter roll. They can contact the toll-free number 0657-1950 also for the purpose. Eligible voters, including staff on election duty and media persons, can vote through postal ballots at polling stations set up in the multipurpo­se exam hall, science block lab-1, and science block lab-3 on May 19, 20, and 21,” Mittal told HT on Thursday.

Nomination papers could be filed for the Jamshedpur LS seat until May 6, while scrutiny of the papers will be done on May 7, and the last date for withdrawin­g nomination forms will be May 9.

Polling will be on May 25, and counting on June 4. The election process will be completed on June 6.
